In the news again, a convicted illegal alien criminal was released by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after contrived and misleading publicity. [Man Reports Car Stolen, Ends Up In Deportation Limbo, by Richard Gonzalez, NPR, February 16, 2016] Note the "man" and not the more accurate term, "illegal alien."
Updated at 4:24 p.m. on Feb. 17: Pedro Figueroa was released on bail from an ICE detention center on Feb. 3. Also, the San Francisco Police Department initially denied that it had cooperated with federal immigration agents. But an internal ICE document shows that the police and sheriff were in direct communication with ICE about Figueroa.
Pedro Figueroa recently reported to San Francisco police that his car had been stolen. When it was recovered, the police summoned Figueroa to a neighborhood station, where they asked for proof that he owned the car. They also ran his name to check for warrants.
Which produced both a conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and an outstanding deportation warrant. Given the recent problems the San Francisco Sheriff's Department has had with alien criminals, someone dropped the dime on Figueroa and he was unceremoniously arrested.
However, the Cultural Marxist press and the Obama Regime jumped in and the illegal alien, who refused to pursue his fraudulent asylum claim in court, was released. Fraudulent because if you really are concerned about being returned to this dangerous country, you would pursue your claim, but he didn't, because it was fraudulent and he was only here for the permiso he received after he was arrested and released according to the Obama Regime rules for fraudulent asylum claimants entering over the Mexican border.
But when Figueroa's lawyers looked into why he was ordered deported, they found an odd and complex story. In 2005, Figueroa came to the United States seeking asylum after being threatened by gangs in his native El Salvador. Immigration authorities released him from custody pending a hearing. But his case fell through the cracks. Figueroa never knew that ICE tried to deport him because the government never called him to a hearing. And apparently he didn't ask why...
An immigration judge in Texas acknowledged there was an error in Figueroa's case and agreed to reopen it.
The new sheriff, quite wisely, and unofficially, let ICE know about the problem with a drunk driving illegal alien. And for the record, when you are convicted of misdemeanor DUI, that is a plea bargain from felony DUI. That's just how it works.

The case also reopens the local debate about San Francisco's sanctuary-city law. Immigration advocates said someone in the police or sheriff's department dropped the dime on Figueroa. Sheriff Vicki Hennessy denied that. "No, it's not an attack on sanctuary city. I believe in the sanctuary-city policies the way they're written now. But I do think there's room for some discretion in looking at particular people with convictions for violent felonies that may come into our custody," Hennessy says.
But Figueroa has no history of violence. His DUI was a misdemeanor, not a violent felony.
That someone's not dead from an case of DUI is a minor miracle, but the Obama Regime Administrative Amnesty for Criminal Aliens does extend to murders as well, especially if those killers are black. [U.S. Failed 3 Times to Deport Illegal Alien Who Murdered Woman, Judicial Watch, February 18, 2016]
Here’s what we already know from local media reports in Norwich, the city of about 40,000 residents where the murder occurred; the DHS agency responsible for deporting illegal immigrants, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), failed to remove Jacques at least three times dating back to 2002. As if this weren’t atrocious enough, Jacques spent 17 years in prison for attempted murder before authorities released him—instead of deporting him—in January of 2015, the Norwich Bulletin reports. Six months later the 41-year-old illegal alien convict stabbed 25-year-old Casey Chadwick to death. Police said Chadwick died of sharp forced injuries to the head and neck. Jacques is being held on a $1 million bond.

Everything the Regime claims is a lie. They first claimed that they were concentrating on deporting criminal aliens, so run of the mill illegals were not a priority, but that was a lie, as criminal alien deportations declined as much as regular deportations. And dead Americans are no obstacle to this population replacement program with the intent on replacing the historic American people with illegal aliens of color.
